Nap Time with Grandma
"God forbid that I should sin against Him by failing to pray for you. " 1 Samuel 12:23
As a pre-school child, I spent my days at Grandma Katie's house while my mom taught first graders at our rural school. Every day, just after lunch, the two of us would head out to the screen porch for our quiet time. It was then that Grandma Katie pulled out the 'Open Windows' prayer guide for the missionaries and began to read the names of each missionary who had a birthday that day and then she read in what country they were serving. Often she could not pronounce the country, so she diligently spelled it out, taking time to say a prayer for each name and country.
I never went to any of those places or met any of those missionaries, but as Grandma Katie and I sat together quietly on that porch, every afternoon, we traveled the world in our prayers. How amazing is our Heavenly Father, who uses the prayers of a grandmother and a preschooler to touch the world!
Thank you, Lord, for your faithfulness through all generations. “But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord's love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children's children.” (Psalm 103:17) Amen.
Prayer point: Please pray for God to inspire us to pray for those serving our Lord around the world.
