IN ORDER FOR STUDENTS TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL IN SCHOOL AND TO LEARN TO MAKE GOOD CHOICES, THEY MUST FEEL SAFE, HAVE ACCESS TO HOT MEALS, AND BE CONNECTED WITH LOVING PEOPLE ON A CONSISTENT BASIS.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
The After School Program of Broaden Horizons is the core of the program. All of the sites are safe learning environments staffed by certified teachers and caring Christian mentors. Every child receives an after-school snack and a full dinner meal four days per week, 32 weeks per year.
The academic focus on English/Language Arts and Math is important, as is the enrichment curriculum. Daily doses of “Positive Action” spark an intrinsic interest in learning and encourage cooperation among students who learn that you feel good about yourself when you do positive actions. These lessons are tied to core Bible principles such as Luke 6:31, “Do unto others as you would have them do to you.”
Broaden Horizons students experience increased academic achievement and reduction in negative behaviors, and learn to make good choices.
SUMMER PROGRAM
The intensive Summer Leadership Academy immerses middle-school students in discipleship as well as STEM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math). Sixty students participate in over 10,000 hours of high-quality programming; in 2014, over 40% of students participating accepted Christ or made a life recommitment.

You have the opportunity to help us live out the mission of Broaden Horizons!
Read to Elementary Classes: Come share one of your favorite childhood stories with a class of either 3rd, 4th, or 5th students!
Guest Speaker: Come help the Broaden Horizons students learn about your profession or hobby! It is important for students to learn life skills along with the basics of various professional careers. If these students have the opportunity to explore various career options, then it will widen their vision of what the future holds.
Special Events: The Broaden Horizons students are given an Incentive Party every 6 weeks if they meet certain criteria. You can help celebrate their accomplishments by serving during the party! We also have other events throughout the year that needs volunteers to help set up, serve or interact with the students.
